An almost original Victorian in desperate need of restumping, with a disjointed tacked-on back living space
-
One bathroom (for the whole family)
-
A small pokey kitchen and living/dining area that the family had outgrown
-
Dark dreary colour, with deep blue carpets, yellow cream walls and orange-toned floorboards
THE CHALLENGE
“As a first time renovator I knew roughly the look and things I wanted but didn't have the confidence to put it all together - especially with the fixtures and finishes,” - explains Skye when asked why she engaged the norsu Design team.
-
A large open-plan living, kitchen and dining area
-
A dual workspace study
-
A hardworking laundry zone (that includes multiple drying cupboards)
-
A dedicated parents zone with formal living and generous ensuite and walk in robe
-
A studio in the backyard for growing teenagers
THE BRIEF
“The brief for the back extension revolved around function, opening up the space to create a central hub of the home. Careful consideration to natural light was integral to the project as our clients' number one objective was to create an uplifting, bright and airy home where new memories could be made”. - explains norsu Design's Senior Designer Lauren Bartlett-Bragg
FROM THE CLIENT
"
I love the skylights in the hallway - we had one in the plans and added another as we were building and then made them both as big as possible so they are both features. Your eyes are drawn up as soon as you walk in the front door and they just flood the hallway with light.
PARENTS RETREAT
DESIGNER NOTES
Functional storage is always a priority, so as well as a walk in wardrobe and double drawer vanity space, we added custom joinery drawers to the bedroom in a stylish and timeless soft grey. It’s also become one of the client’s favourite spaces to mix and match styling items.
STYLING FEATURES
The combination of cosy quilts, fluffy pillows and layered throws are the key to making this bedroom feel like a dreamy oasis.
-
Bespoke norsu cushions paired with neutral linen that connect to the feature artwork above the bed
-
Soft white sheers for the perfect filtered light
-
Ethnicraft Spindle Bedside Table
HENRY'S ROOM
DESIGNER NOTES
This musical teenager needed a room that matched his needs and was styled to his passions. The dark grey bedhead anchors a mix of striped French linen bedding with the muted tones allowing Henry's guitar collection and curated art prints to shine. We incorporated space within the study desk to accommodate amps and speakers and the feeling of this room oozes humble rockstar.
